Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is a great place for a family vacation. There are many places and activities to visit that are great for all ages. Here are just a few of the family friendly attractions to see and do in Fort Lauderdale.

The Beach
Fort Lauderdale has 20 miles of coastline and beaches, and they are all within walking distance of hotels, inns, restaurants and various attractions. In addition to swimming and sunbathing, visitors may also go snorkeling or scuba-driving. The beach also has a picnic area that allows grilling.

The Funderdome
The Funderdome is a good place to take preteens and younger if the weather isn’t cooperating. Kids may enjoy laser tag, a ropes course and a rock wall. There is also a “Toddler Zone” for kids three and under; it’s a play area with non-motorized vehicles and soft cushions. Adults can enjoy the café while their kids play.

The Museum of Discovery and Science
The Museum of Discovery and Science is an “Exploratorium” with 85,000 square feet. It is home to such activities and exhibits as an IMAX theater and flight simulators. The new EcoDiscovery Center introduces youngsters to the Florida environment, both past and present. Visitors may watch otters frolic, dig for megalodon fossils or ride an air boat.

The Jungle Queen Riverboat
The Jungle Queen Riverboat is an old-fashioned riverboat that has been operating since 1935. It offers a variety of sight-seeing cruises, many of them 90 minutes long. The “Dinner & Show Cruise” is a more elaborate affair during which guests will be dropped off at an island for a barbecue dinner and a variety show.

Sawgrass Recreation Park
The Sawgrass Recreation Park, which has been in business since the 1950’s, lets visitors explore the Everglades. There is a small zoo that displays native animals like alligators and Florida panthers and educates people about exotic animals like iguanas, a major invasive species in Florida. The park offers air boat rides both day and night.

Las Olas Gondoa Tours
Fort Lauderdale is sometimes called the “Venice of America,” so it only makes sense that somebody would offer gondola tours. They typically last about 75 minutes. The gondolas have a cabin in the center to keep everybody dry in case it rains. The gondolier will take passengers down some of the canals in Fort Lauderdale and show them some of the most luxurious buildings and impressive gardens in town.
